My goal is to forecast traffic like the weather. You should be able to glance at the site and get a good idea of what your drive will be like tomorrow.

The idea took hold in my mind while stuck in traffic on I-70 going skiing one Saturday, and has only grown with every mountain drive since. Why can’t we predict traffic the way we do the weather? Wouldn’t it be nice to know in advance what you are in for on your drive? If I sleep in an extra thirty minutes, will I cost myself an extra hour in traffic? What time to I need to leave in order to get the kids to their lessons on time? What about the drive home? Well, the goal of this site is to provide an app for that!

To that end, I built this system from the ground up. I pulled together years worth of traffic data from the Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) and weather data from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) then ran an ensemble of machine learning algorithms against them. The result is an hourly traffic forecast to help plan your drive.

Have feedback on how to make it better?
